WorldPay Zinc

Posted by Jonathan Day at Wednesday, July 10, 2013

We have been testing the new WorldPay Zinc card payment tool over the last week and it appears to be a very useful little bit of kit.

So what is it? It is a card reader that allows you to take payments by credit or debit card.  What is somewhat unique is that this is a battery operated, bluetooth enabled card reader which uses an iPhone app to make the payment.

After a few teething problems with charging and configuration, we were up and running . The device can be purchased for a one off fee of £59.  No monthly fees or long term contracts, just a fixed 2.75% fee from each card payment.  You can apply for it as a sole trader or a company and although it takes 4 days to clear the funds, it appears as individual transactions directly in your nominated bank account, which makes it great for using with Xero and your automated bank feed imports and bank reconciliations. It can even 'airprint' an invoice or email the invoice to the customer straight from the app.

If you are not in a position yet to obtain a full merchant account from your bank, we recommend this as a good tool for collecting payments from clients.
